Casting

Daytime and/or evening as needed

The Casting Intern will assist the Casting Director with auditions and administration. Audition duties include scheduling actors and assisting with auditions. Administrative duties include data entry, scanning and filing of headshot/resumes. Knowledge of Access a plus.

Summer Internship: June 1 - August 31. Deadline to apply April 1.
Fall Internship: September 1 - November 30. Deadline to apply July 1.
Winter Internship: December 1 - February 28. Deadline to apply October 1. 

 

 

Graphic Design

Daytime and evening, 15-20 hours/week

The Graphic Design Intern position will be an excellent hands-on experience for a young professional seeking to build or enhance your design portfolio while acquiring a deeper knowledge of the types of design required in the Chicago arts market for marketing and fundraising purposes.  Reporting to the Director of Marketing, the ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Proficiency with MS Office suite; knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite a plus
  • Aptitude for desktop publishing and graphic design
  • Experience with social media
  • Interest in the Chicago performing arts community
  • Excellent communication skills

While at Remy Bumppo, the intern will work alongside the Director implementing web, print, and social media promotions for ticket and subscription sales, special events, and fundraising initiatives. The Intern will also assist with web site content, and member communications.  

This is a 20-hour per week commitment. A stipend is available. Some evenings and weekends are required.

 

 

Development

Spring 2017 internship available

Daytime, 8 hours/week

The Development intern will receive important exposure to Remy Bumppo Theatre Company’s fundraising efforts, work so vital to keeping any non-profit organization thriving. The Development intern will gain an understanding of and appreciation for each unique and necessary aspect of creating a sustainable funding base for an arts organization. The intern will work closely with the Director of Development to conduct research on potential individual, foundation and corporate donors, track and analyze patron giving history and trends, develop and implement plans for cultivation and fundraising events, and help to write and assemble grant proposals and reports. The ideal intern candidate will possess the following:

  • An interest in expository and persuasive writing, with strong writing skills
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel and Access
  • A tenacious and thorough approach to ongoing projects

This 8-hour per week commitment can be fulfilled on one day, or split over two days a week. A stipend is available. Some evenings and weekends may be required.

 

Summer Internship: June - August. Deadline to apply May 1.
Fall Internship: September - December. Deadline to apply August 1.
Spring Internship: April - June. Deadline to apply March 1.

 

Special Events Intern

10-12 hours/week

 

The Special Events intern will gain valuable experience in all aspects of event planning and execution. Working closely with the Director of Development and Benefit Committee members, the intern will assist in the planning of Remy Bumppo’s Annual Benefit – the company’s single largest fundraising effort. The Special Events intern will serve as the Auction Coordinator, creating materials to solicit auction donations, tracking the receipt of items and managing the online Silent Auction. He/she will also assist with other event-related tasks such as event promotion, décor, volunteer coordination and other logistics. 

  • An interest in event management
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel and Word
  • An ability/interest in working independently and managing deadlines

This 10-12 hour per week commitment can be split over multiple days. Scheduling is flexible, though most work should take place on weekdays during normal office hours (Monday-Friday between 10a-6p). Exceptions can be made for other commitments. A stipend is available. Some evenings and weekends may be required.  Special events intern must be available on the day of the benefit: March 5, 2017.

 

Special Events Internship: December 2017 - March 2018. 

 

Artistic

Daytime and evening, 15-20 hours/week

 

The Artistic intern will gain valuable experience in many aspects of artistic planning. Working closely with the Artistic Director and Artistic Assistant, the Artistic Intern's responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
  • Creating written or graphic content for our Field Guides
  • Managing submitted scripts 
  • Creating the production Playbills as well as cast lists and other supportive materials 
  • Coordinating artistic talent for readings, appearances and events
  • Working as a fact-checker for all print materials (i.e. production playbill, dramaturgical information)
  • Staffing events
  • Clerical duties, including computer research and copying
  • Other duties related to the Artistic Director. Artistic Assistant, and Artistic Associates.

 

 

Applying for all Internships

Requirements

Interns must be at least 18 years of age and have some experience in the area of specialty and some computer literacy. While a theatre degree is not necessary, Remy Bumppo interns are usually people who plan to pursue a career in the arts. The minimum time commitment varies between internships and can sometimes be a combination of day & evening work.

Compensation

Remy Bumppo offers its interns either a limited stipend or academic credit. Stipends are determined by time commitment and type of internship. Remy Bumppo will assist in tailoring internships to meet the credit requirements of individual schools. However, interns must make all credit arrangements.

While international applicants are encouraged to apply, Remy Bumppo cannot sponsor foreign applicants or assist with visa arrangements. All housing arrangements are the responsibility of the intern.
