We are seeking vivid new versions of well-established texts or adaptations that open literate texts to a new audience. We encourage writers who believe a play needs a fresher voice or particular point of view in order to see the work in a new light.

Take Center Stage: Executive Coaching
This class is a great way to take the fear out of public speaking. Linda Gillum uses theatre techniques that turn the monologue of a speech into a dialogue with the audience. She will help students create a speech to present with the emphasis on delivery skills, highlighting the speaker’s personality. Students may also bring in a prepared speech that they have worked on in previous public speaking engagements. Class size is small for overall individual attention.
For over ten years, Linda Gillum has been consulting with large corporations in the area of presentational speaking. With an extensive theatre background, both as an actor and director, she has first-hand knowledge of how to deal with "stage fright" and the fears and challenges of being in front of an audience. She will help you transform dry, informational material, making it easier to be entertaining and interesting, with the ultimate goal of truly engaging your audience. Your private coaching is divided into two parts: Delivery, where your individual challenges regarding eye contact, voice and physicality will be addressed, and organization, where you will be assisted in developing a presentation that will suit you individual needs and style. Ms. Gillum has worked with groups as well as one-on-one coaching and has extended her knowledge to Remy Bumppo Theatre where she is an Artistic Associate.

Designed to be a class, participants will be instructed to recognize the differences in art forms (e.g. literature to stage); to appreciate that adapting work is a long series of serious choices; and learn what Remy Bumppo looks for in a “good play”- a play that will be an engaging story.
This class is designed to engage individuals who appreciate tracking the evolution of new work development and observing how actors & directors work together to understand how the writer’s technique, punctuation, structure facilitate an actor's ability to access a character.
The class will meet 6 times; 3 hours every other week between January through April 2010 at either the rehearsal or performance space. The class will be required to read up to 12 scripts. Activities of the class will include discussion, reading sections of the plays and/or sequences from various scripts aloud to demonstrate the ideas of a “good play”, exploring existing adaptations of the material, and exploring the writing style of the original writer. Remy Bumppo Artistic Associates will be involved throughout, lending their insight to the process of play selection. The class will discuss each play over the course of the four months culminating in selecting and pitching its top choices to Artistic Director,

A new class offered by Remy Bumppo on reading a play the Remy Bumppo way! Discuss with our artists. Expand your dramatic repertoire. Think and feel with Remy Bumppo. Join a discussion with Remy Bumppo artistis! This class is not for performers but rather for current or future writers or theatre patrons who appreciate great writing for the theatre and who want to learn more about how it works and what we look for in a script. The class will focus on studying the texts of some of the company's favorite, featured writers, such as Pinter, Albee, Shaw, Stoppard, and others. Each meeting will focus attention on a few of the seminal works of one playwright, do live readings of scenes from several others, and examine the dramaturgical structure, the use of theatrical language, and discuss staging possibilities. Reading lists will be provided--but we will use as introductory guides Michael Ball's "Backwards & Forwards" and William Gibson's "Shakespeare's Game." Class size is small for rigorous and intimate discussion.
