Remy Bumppo's Between the Lines series was created to further engage our audience and enhance their appreciation of each of our mainstage productions. Social and political activist and educator Prexy Nesbitt introduces the themes of The Island in a pre-show conversation. Tickets are $50 and include a ticket for the 2:30 p.m. matinee of The Island and a post-show discussion. thinkFilmSlam - Remy Bumppo's First Ever Short Film Contest
Lincoln Hall, 2424 N. Lincoln Ave.
The Remy Bumppo thinkFilmSlam is a short film screening in conjunction with Remy Bumppo's upcoming Mainstage show, The Island, by Athol Fugard. The thinkFilmSlam competition challenges local artists to create short films incorporating The Island's theme of civil disobedience, the effects of social injustice, faith in solidarity, and the struggle to bring awareness to issues deprecating the human spirit using the conventions of theatre. This event will include a screening of the winning entries and a ceremony to honor the filmmakers. This is an all-ages show open to the Chicago area film community and general public. Doors open at 7:00pm. Admission is $5; tickets will be available for purchase at Lincoln Hall or through their website at http://www.lincolnhallchicago.com/. (Advance reservations recommended but not necessary.) Lincoln Hall is within walking distance of the Fullerton Red/Purple/Brown line stop, as well as multiple CTA bus routes. Remy Bumppo Theatre Company is partnering with the Egan Center of DePaul University and other student organizations for an open reading of Sophocles' Antigone, read by patrons, artists and community members. Looking for interested parties to come participate as readers, or just attend as audience members; a discussion will follow the reading. This event is is free of charge; email thinktank@remybumppo.org with your interest--please specify whether or not you are interested in reading, attending as an audience member or both. American Theater: Writing for Change Panel Discussion
Museum of Contemporary Art, 220 E. Chicago Ave.
Remy Bumppo Theatre Company and MCA Performances present an insightful panel discussion feature playwrights and scholars delving into the art of writing for change. This panel is in conjunction with FugardChicago2010, a consortium of Remy Bumppo Theatre Company, TimeLine Theatre, and Court Theatre, all of whom are producing plays by South African playwright Athol Fugard during spring of 2010. Jonathan Wilson, director of TimeLine Theatre's 'Master Harold'...and the Boys, will moderate the discussion between playwrights Tarell Alvin McCraney, Young Jean Lee, Kristoffer Diaz, Tanya Saracho, and dramaturg and theatre scholar Richard Pettengill. Playwrights Tarell Alvin McCraney of The Brother/Sister Plays currently running at Steppenwolf, Young Jean Lee of The Shipment performing on the MCA Stage in March, and Kristoffer Diaz of the Off-Broadway bound The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity will speak along with writer, actor, and founding artistic director of Teatro Luna Tanya Saracho and Richard Pettengill, the current Chair and Director of Theater at Lake Forest College and former Dramaturg and Director of Arts in Education at the Goodman Theatre. This event will be podcasted for Chicago Amplified, an online archive of community events on www.WBEZ.org.  Admission is free, but reservations are recommended.  Use your ticket stub for free admission to the galleries prior to the panel discussion or within 7 days of event. Multi-media Island Lobby Display
Greenhouse Theater Center Lobby Display, 2257 N. Lincoln Ave.
This multimedia lobby display will include items on loan from Columbia College Chicago's Library, which chronicles Chicago's historic role in the Anti Apartheid movement from 1977 - 2000. The display will also include film footage from the Robben Island Singers (Groundswell Educational Films) and selected South African Art.

WWW.FUGARDCHICAGO2010.COM is a partnership between Remy Bumppo, Court Theatre, TimeLine Theatre Company and the League of Chicago Theaters in launching a collaborative website to promote Chicago's season of Fugard. The lineup begins with TimeLine's production of 'Master Harold'...and the Boys (Jan. 20 - March 21), followed by Remy Bumppo's The Island (Jan. 27 - March 7, 2010), and concludes with Court Theatre's production of Sizwe Banzi Is Dead (May 13 - June 13, 2010). The website includes detailed information about all three plays and offers theatre-goers a chance to purchase a 3-play pass for $75.
