Shawn’s directing credits at Remy Bumppo include Chesapeake, The Philadelphia Story and The Importance of Being Earnest, all of which were nominated for the Joseph Jefferson Award for Best Production. In addition to shows listed above, Shawn co-directed Usman Ally’s solo performance piece, Public Enemy, as part of Remy Bumppo’s thinkTank, an annual project he created and produced to present works addressing pressing issues such as immigration and national security.

Shawn’s adaptation of immigrant oral histories, An Immigrant Class, was the centerpiece of the first edition of thinkTank. His most recent adaptation is of Mark Twain’s A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court, which was read at the Chicago Humanities Festival, and later produced at Northwestern University as part of the Wallis Works-in-Progress series.
As an actor at Remy Bumppo, Shawn won an After Dark Award for his performance as John Tanner in Man and Superman and was nominated for a Jeff for the role of Adolphus Cusins in Major Barbara. Other credits include: Johnny Case in Holiday, Felix Humble in Humble Boy, Charles in The Clean House, Galileo in The Life of Galileo, and Devery in Born Yesterday. He appeared on stage for three seasons at Wisconsin’s American Players Theatre and at many Chicago venues including the Court, Writers’, and Northlight theatres. Shawn teaches acting at Northwestern University.
