Playwriting: The Creative Leap

A great class for anyone who loves to write or who’d like to try it out! Writers will explore the beginning of the writing process with instructor Steph Del Rosso. Students will read a variety of plays, tackle weekly writing exercises, and ultimately craft a collection of scenes and monologues that could inspire one or more original plays. Beginning writers are welcome as are more seasoned writers looking to practice their craft!

*This class will take place online via Zoom – participants must be able to attend the class in real time, as it will not be recorded.

About the Instructor

Steph Del Rosso (she/her) is a playwright, fiction writer, screenwriter, and educator.

Her work has been produced or developed at Second Stage Theater, The Public, La Jolla Playhouse, The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, The Kennedy Center, Ojai Playwrights Conference, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, JACK, and others. Steph is a Core Writer at the Playwrights’ Center, a 2023 MacDowell fellow, a 2023 Bogliasco Foundation fellow, a New Georges Audrey Resident, and a winner of the Steinberg Playwright Award and the Mississippi Review Prize in Fiction. Her plays are published by Concord Theatricals and Dramatists Play Service.

Steph is the former Dance Editor of The Brooklyn Rail and still loves seeing dance and live music as much as possible. She’s worked on various state-level political campaigns and likes to sing, read anything written by this woman, and eat her way through her neighborhood of Sunset Park, Brooklyn. She received her MFA from UC-San Diego.
