ABOUT MATTHEW

Matthew Randle-Bent (he/him) is Associate Director at the Jane Addams Hull-House Museum. Major projects include directing Act Well Your Part, a multi-year exhibition, performance festival and forthcoming publication reconnecting Hull-House’s deep theatre histories to Chicago’s vibrant contemporary theatre scene. Randle-Bent also led the opening of Hull-House Books, a bookstore and publishing imprint with the mission: “books to inspire civic action.” He has published widely on modern and contemporary art, theatre and performance, and occasionally serves as dramaturg on theatre productions across the city. In 2022, he was an Artist in Residence at The Watermill Center, Robert Wilson’s laboratory of performance on Long Island. He attended his local state school in Gloucestershire, rural England, before an undergraduate degree from the University of Warwick, a Master’s at Queen Mary, University of London, and, after moving to the US in 2016, a PhD from Northwestern University. He lives with his family on the South Side of Chicago.
