Remy Bumppo Theatre Company's
2012/2013 Season

The Marriage Game: Truth and Consequence?

Seascape

By Edward Albee

Directed by Artistic Director Nick Sandys
Featuring Artistic Associate Annabel Armour
September 12 - October 14, 2012 (rights pending)

Annabel Armour headshot A Pulitzer Prize-winning script and giant lizards - theatre doesn’t get any better than this.

The last time Remy Bumppo tackled Albee, both the production and Annabel Armour earned Jeff Awards. This time the human relationships with animals are strictly platonic - a journey into primordial eons and emotions, where lizard brains and human pains face futures both immediate and infinite.

You Never Can Tell

By George Bernard Shaw

Directed by Artistic Associate Shawn Douglass
Featuring Artistic Associate Greg Matthew Anderson
November 21, 2012 - January 6, 2013

Greg Matthew Anderson headshotShawn Douglass, who directed our acclaimed presentation of The Importance of Being Earnest, is back at the helm, and Greg Matthew Anderson back on the boards, in this multi-generational romp of mistaken identity and ever-changing relationships at a seaside resort. Will lovers unite? Will the children ever learn who their father is? Will parents’ wills prevail? Will the twins ever shut up? And will these men survive Shaw’s "woman of the 20th century"? You never can tell.

"rapid-fire, precision-timed direction by Shawn Douglass"Chicago Sun-Times on our production of The Importance of Being Earnest

"Remy Bumppo has successfully delivered the perfect rhythm of Shaw’s flowing and introspective voice"Chicago Theater Beat on our production of Shaw's Mrs. Warren’s Profession

Creditors

By August Strindberg, a new version by David Greig

Featuring Artistic Associate Linda Gillum
April 10 - June 2, 2013

Linda Gillum headshotBefore The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, before Ingmar Bergman, before even the phrase "Swedish noir," came Creditors, a sexy, twisting tale of psychological manipulation and revenge. Not that Strindberg saw it that way – he told his publisher the play was "humorous, loveable, all of its characters sympathetic." We’re proud to present the Midwest premiere of David Grieg's witty new adaptation that drew raves in London and New York.

"gripping, powerful and blackly comic"The Telegraph on the London production of Creditors

Special Holiday Show

THE CHIMES: A Goblin Story

By Charles Dickens,
adapted by Artistic Director Nick Sandys
December 15, 22, 23, & 31, 2012
Featuring Nick Sandys

Nick Sandys headshotYes, Virginia, Dickens did write other Christmas stories besides that one – four others, the first of which was The Chimes. It’s a New Year’s tale that gave a goose to critics of A Christmas Carol, deemed too socially radical for its day, but still very fitting for our own times.

Performed by Artistic Director Nick Sandys, this captivating Dickensian story of bleakness-turning-to-hopefulness includes the usual delightful gallery of grotesque characters and scathing social issues, leading to a rebirth worthy of, well, yes, Scrooge.
